Siya Goyal’s ‘Sitting Down’ Was Signal For Chetan Chaudhary To Push Ketan Agarwal Off Lohagad Cliff? Published By, Last Updated: June 29, 2026, 17:27 IST The signal was also intended to ensure Goyal's own safety by keeping her out of Agarwal's reach during the fatal attack, said police Rapid Read Ketan Agarwal, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary. Investigators probing the alleged murder of 20-year-old Ketan Agarwal at Lohagad Fort have revealed that a seemingly ordinary act by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, was a carefully planned signal that played a crucial role in the crime. According to the Pune Rural Police, Goyal allegedly used a pre-arranged “sitting down" signal to indicate the exact moment for her alleged lover, 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, to push Agarwal off the cliff on June 18. The signal was also intended to ensure Goyal’s own safety by keeping her out of Agarwal’s reach during the fatal attack, said police.
Police said Goyal was instructed to either sit down under the pretext of drinking water or pretending to tie her shoelaces. Investigators believe that lowering herself to the ground served two purposes: it alerted Chaudhary that Agarwal was standing at the edge of the cliff, and it prevented Agarwal from grabbing onto her in a desperate attempt to save himself, which could have dragged her into the gorge. The investigation has also uncovered what police describe as extensive planning behind the alleged murder. According to investigators, Goyal and Chaudhary conducted a reconnaissance visit to Lohagad Fort before the incident to identify the ideal location and allegedly rehearse the execution of their plan. To avoid leaving a digital trail, Chaudhary reportedly travelled from Pune to the fort on a scooter instead of using a car, fearing that toll plaza cameras could record a vehicle registration number.
Police further alleged that he wore a hoodie while trekking to the fort to conceal his identity, removed it during the attack while dressed in a black T-shirt, and put it back on before leaving the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, the Pune Rural Police recently took Goyal back to Lohagad Fort to recreate the crime scene using a dummy. With the initial period of police custody coming to an end, investigators have produced both accused before the court seeking an extension of their remand for further interrogation. Goyal and Chaudhary have been remanded in police custody till July 3.
