A seven-member gang intercepted the car of a Kerala-bound gold trader, forced him out of the vehicle and fled with 180 grams of gold jewellery in a daring highway robbery near Baikampady on the outskirts of Mangaluru in the early hours of Monday.
The man driving the car, identified as Vikas, a gold trader based in Sangli, Maharashtra, was travelling with his wife and child from Sangli to Payyanur in Kerala when the gang, travelling in an Innova, blocked his car by suddenly braking in front of it at around 2:15 am.
Read Full Story The accused forced Vikas out of the vehicle before driving away with his car, which was carrying a bag containing 180 grams of gold jewellery. The gang later abandoned Vikas's wife and child near Kuloor before escaping from the spot.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Police suspect the gang fled towards either Kerala or Bengaluru and have launched a manhunt to trace the accused. Ends
