Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwar has said that the government of Karnataka is eager to sign an agreement with Peru to declare Lima, Peru’s capital, and Bengaluru as sister cities. Speaking at the 205th Independence Day celebrations of Peru in Bengaluru on June 28, Mr. Parameshwar said that it was important to sign the agreement for sister cities to improve Bengaluru’s connect with Peru in trade, education and health sectors.
“This will help increase bilateral trade between India and Peru by $10 billion. Karnataka contributes 40% of India’s information technology and bio-technology output, and is leading the country in these sectors. The inflow of investments during the global investors meet proves the State’s progress,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the liberation movements in Latin America, and the Mahatma Gandhi-led freedom movement in India had deeper similarity. Peru’s Ambassador
to India Javier Manuel Paulinich Velarde, and Honorary Consul of Peru in Bengaluru Vikram Vishwanath were among those who participated in the celebrations.
