Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said the state’s push for development, good governance and public welfare would gain fresh momentum as he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 66 projects worth over Rs 569 crore in Pilibhit’s Barkhera and Bisalpur Assembly constituencies. Read Full Story A day earlier, Adityanath reviewed development works, the law and order situation, and the Public Works Department's proposed action plan for the Agra Division, directing officials to ensure quality and accountability in all infrastructure projects. Yogi Adityanath, chairing a high-level meeting at the Divisional Commissioner's auditorium, said shortcomings in development works would not be tolerated and there would be no compromise on quality under any circumstances.
He said Agra, now a metro city, should have water supply, roads, sewerage and urban beautification facilities in line with metro standards. According to a government statement, he directed officials to immediately prohibit the movement of heavy vehicles on rural roads and recover repair costs from vehicle owners responsible for damaging them. He also expressed displeasure over the poor restoration of roads dug up for works under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the AMRUT Scheme, sewer line projects and other infrastructure works. Adityanath warned that engineers and contractors would be held directly accountable for poor-quality construction. He directed officials to lodge FIRs and initiate legal action against those found responsible for substandard work. The chief minister also reviewed legal hurdles affecting the expansion of Agra Airport, the construction of new bridges and road-widening projects because of cases pending before the Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court.
He directed officials to ensure that development projects are not stalled and asked them to constitute a panel of senior advocates to effectively represent the government's case before the courts. He also said that where old trees obstruct road-widening works, alternative alignments should be prepared while preserving the land occupied by those trees. He expressed concern over illegal mining from neighbouring Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and directed officials to strengthen vigilance along state borders and coordinate with neighbouring states to tackle the issue. He also instructed officials to address the problem of stray cattle to protect farmers' crops. During the meeting, public representatives raised demands for key infrastructure projects, including the Dayalbagh-Khandauli Bypass, a new bridge over the Yamuna, the Etmadpur Bypass and measures to address waterlogging on Gwalior Road.
