Ebola continues to spread through eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, with the outbreak centred on densely populated areas such as Rwampara, near the provincial capital Bunia. At least 15 cases have been confirmed at the local treatment centre, with seven more awaiting results, and deaths occurring almost daily.
Health workers face acute shortages of protective equipment, medicines and test kits, while also contending with community hostility โ including arson attacks on treatment facilities. Staff can work inside for no more than an hour at a time due to the extreme heat of their protective gear.
