A ruckus broke out on Sunday at a gurdwara in Mohali during a welcome ceremony for Nihang Sikhs who had returned to Punjab after being released from Uttarakhand. According to reports, an individual allegedly attempted to attack Nihang Baba Jasdeep Singh during the ceremony. A felicitation event was being held at Gurdwara Singh Shaheeda in Sohana, Mohali, to welcome the Nihang Sikhs, who had recently been released on bail by a court in connection with the June 16 assault case in Karnaprayag, Uttarakhand. Read Full Story During the programme, while siropas were being presented to the Nihang Sikhs and the congregation raised religious slogans, a man from the crowd suddenly moved forward and allegedly tried to assault Baba Jasdeep Singh.
He was immediately overpowered and detained by Nihang Sikhs and others present at the spot. Local police reached the scene soon after and said the situation is now under control. They added that they are in constant touch with the gurdwara management. Police also said that no complaint has been received so far, but action will be taken if one is filed. REVISITING THE KARNAPRAYAG ROW A district court in Uttarakhand's Chamoli on Saturday granted bail to four Nihang Sikhs arrested in connection with the case in Karnaprayag.
The accused had been lodged in judicial custody following the incident, which had triggered tensions in the region. The bail was granted by the court of District and Sessions Judge Bindhyachal Singh in Gopeshwar. While allowing the bail applications, the court said that legal proceedings in the case would continue in accordance with the law. The case stems from a clash between a group of Nihang Sikhs and local residents in Karnaprayag on June 16. Following the incident, police registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to attempt to murder and assault.
The incident drew widespread attention after several misleading and controversial posts related to the clash circulated on social media, contributing to a tense atmosphere in parts of Uttarakhand. Ends
