(Image: X) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the strategic importance of Seychelles in India’s maritime vision, saying the island nation holds a unique place in New Delhi’s approach to the Indian Ocean region. Addressing the Parliament of Seychelles, Prime Minister Modi recalled that the country was his first destination in the Indian Ocean region after assuming office in 2015, describing the visit as a reflection of India’s long-term commitment to strengthening ties with the archipelago. ‘Seychelles Holds Special Place In India’s Indian Ocean Vision’ “I came here because I believe that Seychelles occupied a special place in India’s vision for the Indian Ocean.
As I return here after a decade, that conviction is stronger than ever. I’m delighted to join you as you celebrate 50 years of your independence…," PM Modi said. He also highlighted the role of the Indian Ocean in bringing the two nations closer, saying, “It reminds us that the bounds between us were not created by governments. They were built by people, nurtured by families and sustained by generations. The Indian Ocean made this possible. The Indian Ocean does not separate India and Seychelles. It connects us, and that’s why we meet not as strangers, we meet as old friends."
