Demanding the Union government to order an independent, Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation embezzlement case, Kerala Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday (June 28, 2026) said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who presided over the consecration of the temple, owes an explanation to the nation. In a Facebook post, he said that those who exploited people’s faith for political gains now face allegations of organised financial fraud.
“The trustees are connected to the top brass of the Sangh Parivar organisations. The trust formed by the Union government through an order placed on the table of Parliament is now under suspicion. The trust and those leading it have a duty to explain where the money collected by exploiting the devotion of people has gone. The Ayodhya temple fund embezzlement is the latest example that illustrates the true nature of Sangh Parivar politics,” he said.
The FIR alleges a coordinated theft operation involving these temple personnel and cash-counting staff systematically pilfering cash from donation boxes and hiding temple valuables during the counting and sorting phases. A special investigation team found that the accused intentionally obstructed the views of security cameras while
processing the donations. Among the arrested accused, Rama Shankar Yadav is considered a close aide of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary and key figure of the temple agitation Champat Rai, a member of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) for over four decades.
