Cross-Voting Fallout Puts Karnataka BJP Leadership Under Scanner: Organisational Revamp On Cards? Reported By, Last Updated: June 28, 2026, 14:55 IST Party insiders say the debate over the Karnataka leadership did not begin with the cross-voting Rapid Read Nitin Nabin and V Somanna. (X) The embarrassment over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cross-voting in the recent Karnataka Legislative Council elections has now evolved into something much bigger — a review of the party’s organisation in the state. What was initially treated as an episode of indiscipline has prompted the BJP’s central leadership to examine whether the Karnataka unit needs a reset, with discussions now extending beyond disciplinary action against errant MLAs to the future of the state leadership itself. According to sources, the party’s national leadership has begun internal consultations on restructuring the Karnataka unit after successive electoral setbacks and the latest cross-voting episode exposed cracks within the legislative party. The speculation gained traction after Union Minister V Somanna met BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Thursday. Though party leaders insist it was a routine meeting, it has sparked intense discussion within BJP circles over whether Somanna could be asked to take over the reins of the Karnataka unit. Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, Somanna neither confirmed nor denied the speculation. “The matter is with the High Command. Whatever decision the High Command takes, all of us will abide by it," he said. When asked whether he was willing to take over as Karnataka BJP president if the party offered him the responsibility, Somanna avoided giving a direct answer.
“I don’t know anything about that. Whatever decision the High Command takes will be our decision," he said. When reminded that he had earlier expressed interest in heading the Karnataka BJP, Somanna smiled off the question, reiterating that the decision rested entirely with the party leadership. His measured response has done little to quell speculation, particularly at a time when the BJP is reassessing its strategy in Karnataka after losing the 2023 Assembly elections and subsequently failing to halt the Congress’s winning streak in five Assembly by-polls. Called on Shri Nitin Nabin Ji, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Member of the Rajya Sabha, in New Delhi today.@NitinNabin pic.twitter.com/Yn1jJtxu7 V. CT Ravi, who is part of the three-member committee constituted to investigate the episode, has submitted an interim report to the party leadership. According to sources, the report reconstructs the events leading up to the election, identifies four BJP MLAs suspected of voting against the party whip and recommends further disciplinary action after a detailed inquiry. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka told CNN-News18 that the party viewed the issue with utmost seriousness. “I have not yet seen CT Ravi’s report. He informed me this morning that he has submitted it.
