Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Credits: X) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked the President of Seychelles for the warm welcome and expressed gratitude for being conferred the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon" award. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said, “India and Seychelles will work with each other." He also welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), saying, “I am happy that an MoU has been signed between India and Seychelles for UPI." Highlighting the outcomes of bilateral talks, PM Modi said, “Today, we discussed making our economic cooperation more resilient and future-ready.
We will continue to explore new opportunities for the industries of both our countries. Work will also be done to enhance connectivity between India and Seychelles." Calling his visit a historic one, PM Modi said it coincides with two major milestones — Seychelles completing 50 years of independence and the two countries marking five decades of diplomatic ties. “I am visiting Seychelles at a historic moment, as the country marks 50 years of independence and we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Bharat and Seychelles. Over these five decades, we have transformed friendship into trust, trust into cooperation, and cooperation into people’s welfare," he said. The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of digital cooperation between the two countries, saying technology can help strengthen bilateral ties.
“We believe that Digital Technology is an effective medium to bridge the distance between the two countries. We will share India’s successful experience in Digital Public Infrastructure with Seychelles. And I am pleased that today an MOU is being signed to implement UPI in Seychelles," PM Modi said.
