Rapid Read Image from the site A kidnapping case in Karnataka took a dramatic turn after a woman escaped from a moving cab moments before a powerful explosion killed the alleged kidnapper on a highway in Tumakuru district. According to police, the accused, identified as Nagendra, allegedly abducted the woman, an operation theatre (OT) technician from Bengaluru, after confronting her at her rented accommodation in Jayanagar on Saturday morning. Investigators said the two had previously been in a relationship but had recently separated. The woman had reportedly blocked Nagendra’s phone number following personal differences.
Police alleged that Nagendra forced the woman into a yellow-board Uber cab and drove towards Ankola. After she went missing, her parents approached the Jayanagar Police Station and lodged a kidnapping complaint. During the journey, Nagendra allegedly threatened to kill the woman before taking his own life. Investigators suspect he was carrying an explosive device, which he allegedly showed her while they were travelling. BREAKUP. KIDNAP. KNIFE ATTACK. The cab driver immediately brought the vehicle to a halt, giving the woman an opportunity to unlock the door and escape. Seconds later, the vehicle was rocked by a powerful explosion and caught fire. Nagendra was trapped inside the cab and died in the blaze before emergency teams could reach the spot. The blast also caused a traffic jam stretching for more than a kilometre along the highway. Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok KV said preliminary investigations suggest Nagendra was carrying an explosive device and may have intentionally triggered the blast. Police recovered explosive-like material from the vehicle and have launched a detailed probe to determine the nature of the device, how it exploded and where it was obtained. The Kallambella Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events leading up to the explosion.
