(Representative image) In a horrifying case of child trafficking and sexual assault in Uttar Pradesh, a 12-year-old girl from Bihar was allegedly sold by her mother to a 40-year-old man from UP’s Chandauli district for Rs 16,000 and 10 saris, before being subjected to repeated rape by the man and an auto driver. According to a report by the Times of India, the accused Lahru Yadav alias Rakesh, a widower, allegedly arranged a fake temple marriage with the minor girl in Chandauli’s Chahania area after ‘purchasing’ her from her mother.
Police said Yadav spent around Rs 90,000 on a hair transplant in Delhi to look younger. After the fake marriage, Yadav allegedly raped the girl repeatedly and forced her to work as a domestic help. After some villagers and neighbours warned him that having a minor girl as a wife could land him in serious trouble, he abandoned the girl near the Banaras railway station in Sarnath on May 19. ALSO READ: DU Student Alleges She Was Drugged, Gang-Raped For Four Days, Then Abandoned At Lucknow Station Auto driver Ravi Verma, a native of Jharkhand, approached the girl and promised to reunite her with her mother. However, he took her near a pond and raped her before abandoning her to flee. The harrowing incident came to light after locals found the girl roaming and crying in Varanasi on May 21 and alerted the cops.
The Child Welfare Committee recorded the statement, unveiling a chilling sequence of trafficking and child sexual assault. Police moved quickly to arrest the mother, Yadav and the auto driver on Saturday. A case was filed against the accused under BNS sections pertaining to rape and the POCSO Act. Sarnath inspector Pankaj Kumar Tripathi said the three were picked up from different locations, TOI reported. Meanwhile, another shocking case emerged from Lucknow, where a woman was allegedly gang-raped and confined for three days in the jurisdiction of the Sushant Golf City Police Station. The woman said she contacted one of the accused while travelling to Delhi, and the man convinced her to accompany him to a rented accommodation in the Sushant Golf City area, where he drugged and raped her.
