'India Handled Global Crisis With Great Responsibility': PM Modi Lauds Citizens' Wartime Support Published By, Last Updated: June 28, 2026, 11:19 IST PM Modi credited citizens for supporting his wartime appeal through reduced gold purchases, less foreign travel, calling it a responsible national response. A file photo of PM Narendra Modi (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the people of India for responding responsibly during a recent global crisis, saying citizens stood together and acted in the national interest by heeding his appeal to avoid buying gold, limit foreign travel, and adopt practices such as carpooling and greater use of public transport. Addressing the nation during the 135th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to citizens for their cooperation and said their collective efforts reflected a deep sense of responsibility. “The people of India handled this global crisis with great responsibility," PM Modi said during the broadcast. Recalling an appeal he had made during the war, the Prime Minister said people responded positively to his request, helping the country navigate a challenging period.
“During the war, I had appealed to the people of the country to avoid buying gold and travelling abroad. I am grateful to the citizens for listening to my appeal and acting upon it," he said. The Prime Minister said the response from the public demonstrated how citizens could contribute meaningfully during difficult times through small but significant actions. He also highlighted examples of behavioural changes adopted by people, saying many voluntarily chose to reduce the burden on resources by sharing transport and making greater use of public transit. “People have also shared their experiences of carpooling. Those travelling on the same route have started carpooling, while many are also using the metro and buses," PM Modi said. According to the Prime Minister, these efforts showcased the willingness of people to work collectively for the larger national interest during the global crisis. C295 PROJECT REFLECTS INDIA’S GROWING CAPABILITIES During the programme, PM Modi also spoke about India’s expanding aerospace manufacturing capabilities, citing the Made-in-India C295 aircraft as an example of the country’s progress in the sector.
“The Made in India C295 aircraft demonstrates India’s growing strength in the aerospace sector. It has also empowered MSMEs by creating opportunities across the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, further strengthening the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat," he said. The Prime Minister said the aircraft project has strengthened India’s aerospace ecosystem while creating fresh opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises associated with the manufacturing supply chain. He added that the initiative reflects the country’s growing self-reliance in high-technology sectors. PM Modi made the remarks during the 135th episode of Mann Ki Baat, his monthly radio programme through which he connects with citizens across India and the global Indian diaspora. The programme was broadcast live at 11 am on All India Radio (Akashvani) and simultaneously across the Doordarshan network. It was also made available on the AIR News website, the NewsOnAir mobile application, and the official YouTube channels of AIR News, DD News, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The monthly broadcast has become a key platform for the Prime Minister to communicate directly with citizens on issues ranging from governance and innovation to public participation and national development.
