The Mumbai Police have foiled a mass poison plot targeting a Muharram procession within the limits of the Byculla Police station. Officers arrested an accused who allegedly ordered 30,000 empty capsules online and procured nearly 50 kilograms of zinc phosphide, a highly toxic rat poison. The suspect prepared capsules containing one gram of zinc phosphide each, claiming they were painkillers to target people in the procession.
Police recovered 14,900 filled capsules before they could be fully distributed. Investigators are currently examining the mobile phone, financial transactions, and contacts of the accused, while also probing multiple trips made by the suspect to Iran and Iraq to determine if there are links to a wider network.
