Twisha Sharma Death Case: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday asserted that the state government stands firmly with the family of Twisha Sharma, who died at her matrimonial in Bhopal two weeks ago, saying that it is committed to ensuring justice through a fair investigation. While speaking exclusively to News18 India, following the Supreme Court hearing, the Chief Minister said that the state government had promptly accepted the family’s demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case. “The stance of the Madhya Pradesh government is clear. We had conveyed to Twisha’s family members that the state government is a sensitive administration. Her parents requested a CBI inquiry; we acceded to their demand immediately," he said.
Yadav added that the recommendation for a CBI investigation had also been placed on record before the Supreme Court during the hearing. The Chief Minister further said that he had personally met Twisha Sharma’s parents and brother and assured them of the government’s support in their pursuit of justice. “From day one, we have maintained a consistent stance with her family: that under any circumstances – should they seek justice – the government stands firmly by their side in that pursuit. Justice must be delivered," Yadav said. He further stated that both the Centre and the state government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were committed to ensuring a thorough investigation and appropriate action in the matter. What Supreme Court Said? Yadav’s remarks came after the Supreme Court underscored the need for a “fair, independent and impartial" probe into death case and noted that the CBI would immediately take over the investigation following the Madhya Pradesh government’s recommendation. “The only issue as of now for our consideration is the recommendations made by the state of MP to hand over the investigation to CBI," the court observed, while recording Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s assurance that the matter would be immediately taken up with the concerned authorities.
While hearing the suo motu matter, a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi, also cautioned all stakeholders against sensationalising the case through public commentary and media appearances. “We will request our media friends not to go for the statements of the victim’s family or the other family. Let the things move as per law and procedure," the bench observed during the hearing. The top court said that it was “slightly at pain" over certain developments in the matter and emphasised that statements by relatives and potential witnesses should be recorded before the investigating agency rather than shared publicly. What’s The Case? The Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognisance of the matter on May 23 following widespread media reports and allegations of procedural irregularities in the investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death.Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Katara Hills on May 12. Her family has alleged dowry harassment, delay in FIR registration, inconsistencies in the post-mortem examination and possible tampering with evidence. Meanwhile, her husband Samarth Singh, the prime accused in the case, has been sent to seven days of police remand by a Bhopal district court.
The state government has also sought cancellation of interim bail granted to his mother Giribala Singh.
