Rapid Read Novak Djokovic has said that he and Virat Kohli text each other (Picture credit: AP) 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has said that although he hasn’t met ace Indian batter Virat Kohli yet, the duo have texted and remained in touch, with the tennis great planning to visit India sometime soon and catch up with Kohli while playing some cricket and tennis. Djokovic has reiterated that stance, fuelling excitement among fans about the prospect of a collaboration between two of the sport’s biggest stars.
Ahead of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, Djokovic revealed that he and Kohli have been in touch via text over the past few years despite never having met in person. Djokovic also said that he hopes to visit India soon, where he plans to play both cricket and tennis with Kohli. “We haven’t met in person, we have texted, we have been in touch for the last few years, following each other, supporting each other, admiring each other’s careers, hopefully I will get a chance to meet him in person and play some tennis, play some cricket," Djokovic said. “I am also planning to come to India soon, so maybe that is where we can get the link up," Djokovic added.
Meanwhile, he is taking inspiration from Serena Williams’ brilliant comeback as he sets his sights on a record-breaking win at Wimbledon. Williams has returned to competitive tennis at the age of 44 and is all set to play her first singles match in four years when she takes on Maya Joint in the opening round of Wimbledon next week. Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles in her brilliant career, just behind Djokovic’s men’s record tally of 24. Djokovic, 39, is chasing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title and Williams’ brilliant comeback at the age of 44, inspired by her desire to compete in front of her two young daughters, prompted Djokovic to reach out to the American and discuss her return to the sport.
