Dangerous driving practices continue unabated in the Munnar hill station. In the latest incident on Saturday morning, five youths were spotted hanging out of the windows and the sunroof of a moving car along the Gap Road stretch of the Munnar-Bodimettu highway. Upon noticing the dangerous behaviour, Munnar Dy.SP S. Chandrakumar intercepted the vehicle and had it moved to the Munnar police station.
Chandrakumar stated that the five youths involved in the reckless act were from Tamil Nadu. “Two youths were hanging out of the vehicle’s windows, while three others were standing through the sunroof,” the official said. “We imposed a fine on the offenders and conducted an awareness class for them.” The Dy.SP. further noted that primarily tourists from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka engage in such hazardous behaviour.
“Malayali tourists are also indulging in these dangerous driving practices. The police will continue strict inspections and take stringent action against offenders,” he warned. This incident closely follows another violation on Thursday, where a group of youths was spotted traveling dangerously in a Karnataka-registered car near Chithirapuram in Munnar. In that instance, three youths were standing through the car’s sunroof, one was sitting on the left door window frame, and another was perched on the vehicle’s bonnet.
According to officials, legal proceedings have already been initiated against those travelers as well.
