Sudheeran faces cyber attacks after criticism of Kerala govt.’s proposal on low-alcohol liquor

Senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran has come under what his supporters describe as a coordinated cyber attack after he publicly criticised the Kerala government’s proposal to grant tax relief to the low-alcohol liquor. Soon after Mr. Sudheeran’s remarks, his Facebook page was flooded with critical and abusive comments. His supporters alleged that the campaign was a deliberate attempt to defame and personally target the veteran leader for taking a stance against the government’s proposal.
The Sudheeran camp alleged that supporters of Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan were behind the online campaign. Comments posted on Mr. Sudheeran’s Facebook page included remarks such as “The spoiler is back like the late O.C.’s time” and “Sudheeran, who was silent in the
last 10 years has come back with criticism...” Another comment accused him of having “spoiled the chances of a second Oommen Chandy government,” while yet another alleged that during the Oommen Chandy government, “Sudheeran opposed the UDF government more than the LDF” and
questioned why he had not objected when the previous LDF government had permitted around 900 bars. Supporters of Mr. Sudheeran maintained that the comments reflected an organised effort to intimidate and discredit him for expressing his views on a matter of public policy.
