A special awareness programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and women’s safety at the workplace was conducted for 112 probationary DSPs at the Telangana Police Academy on Saturday, June 27. CID DGP Charu Sinha attended the session as the chief guest at the invitation of Academy Director Abhilash Bisht and explained the provisions of the POSH Act.
The officer said that sexual harassment at workplaces could occur not only through direct actions but also through words, behaviour, gestures and other forms of inappropriate conduct. She urged women to recognise such incidents promptly and make use of the legal safeguards available under the Act.
Using real-life examples, she stressed that every police officer has a responsibility to ensure a safe working environment for women. Isha Sharwani, a counsellor with the Women’s Safety Wing, spoke about the psychological, social and professional challenges faced by
women in their careers. She also explained different forms of sexual harassment and ways to address them, urging police officers to develop a sound understanding of laws related to women’s safety and dignity while creating awareness in the society.
