Seychelles Foreign Minister Barry Faure has expressed strong support for India's bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling for comprehensive reforms of the global governance system. Speaking on the need to modernize international institutions, Faure said the global order established in 1945 no longer fully reflects present-day realities. He emphasized that countries like India and regions such as Africa deserve greater representation in key international institutions.
The Foreign Minister stated that India's large population, growing global influence, contributions to UN peacekeeping, maritime security, and multilateral diplomacy make it well-qualified for permanent membership of the Security Council. He added that Seychelles supports India's position and believes India's inclusion would strengthen global balance and international peace. The remarks come during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's State Visit to Seychelles, highlighting the close strategic and diplomatic partnership between the two nations.
