The Indian Prime Minister has embarked on a three-day official visit to the Republic of Seychelles to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the island nation's Day as the chief guest. The visit also marks fifty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. A major highlight of the trip includes an interaction with a one-hundred-and-ninety-four-year-old giant tortoise recognized as the oldest living land animal in the world.
The Indian premier will address the host nation's Parliament, interact with the Indian diaspora, and hold bilateral talks with the Seychelles President to discuss regional and international issues. The historic visit is expected to strengthen strategic engagement in the Indian Ocean region under the Neighborhood First policy and Maha Sagar vision. Discussions will focus on defense, maritime security, sustainable development, and the blue economy.
With a historic line of credit previously announced, this engagement further cements the island nation as an important gateway to the Global South and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
