(Source: Reuters) The United States government has eased restrictions on Anthropic’s advanced AI model, allowing the company to release its powerful Mythos 5 system to a limited group of trusted organisations after revising licensing requirements following an export block imposed earlier this month over national security concerns. The move follows discussions between Anthropic and US authorities aimed at addressing the security risks that prompted the restrictions. In a letter to the company, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that since the export ban earlier in June, “Anthropic has worked with the US government to address risks associated with the Covered Models." “I have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place to permit certain trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 Model," he said. Anthropic Confirms US Govt’s Green Signal For Mythos Confirming the decision, Anthropic said it had been notified by the US government that limited deployment of the model could resume. “We received notice from the US government that Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a small group of cyber defenders and infrastructure providers," Anthropic said in a statement. “We are working to provision the approved set of providers and restore their access to Mythos 5 as quickly as possible. We are pleased to see this progress and continue to work with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available for general use again," the statement added. The authorisation does not extend to Fable, the company’s less powerful AI model, which remains subject to export restrictions. Earlier this month, Anthropic suspended customer access to both Mythos and Fable after the US government ordered the company to halt use of the models by all foreign nationals, including its own employees.
