(File photo: PTI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday launched a fierce political assault on the ruling dispensation over the ongoing investigation into the alleged theft and misappropriation of devotees’ donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Addressing a joint press conference along with AAP Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and Uttar Pradesh In-charge Sanjay Singh, Kejriwal labelled the ruling establishment a “Chanda Chor Party" (donation-theft party) and demanded that those responsible for siphoning off multi-crore offerings be publicly hanged for committing a grave spiritual sin. The AAP leadership alleged that the recently constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the subsequent First Information Report (FIR) filed by law enforcement were part of a coordinated cover-up. Kejriwal claimed that the administration is shielding senior individuals at the top of the hierarchy by trapping low-level staff, cashiers, and watchmen as pawns.
He asserted that the Hindu community would only find peace when the principal perpetrators are held legally accountable while calling for a nationwide social boycott of the political executives backing the temple management. During the briefing, the former Delhi Chief Minister detailed specific instances where the trust of devotees had been fractured by the unfolding financial controversy. He cited the example of the Sindhi Association, which had donated 200 kilograms of silver in January 2021 without demanding a receipt out of absolute faith, but is now left questioning where their sacred offering has gone. Kejriwal pointed out that this widespread public anxiety has directly impacted the temple’s daily collections. According to media reports, the daily donations at the Ayodhya shrine have plummeted from an average of Rs 12 lakh to Rs 14 lakh down to less than Rs 1 lakh since the allegations surfaced. He further cited historical land deals from March 2021, where property allegedly valued at Rs 2 crore was purchased by individuals close to the ruling party and resold to the temple trust within ten minutes for an inflated sum of Rs 18.5 crore, as clear evidence of deep-seated financial corruption.
