State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao took strong objection to the remarks of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi that only BJP membership card will be the authentic document for citizenship and not the passport. At a press conference, Mr. Ramchander Rao reminded that the Courts have established through their judgments that a passport was not conclusive proof of citizenship.
The Mumbai High Court, in a 2013 judgment, made it clear that a passport is a travel document. Citing an example, he said that spiritual leader Dalai Lama has a passport, but he is not an Indian citizen, and suggested Mr. Owaisi that instead of spreading false information, he should make people aware of facts as he was also a Barrister.
Rao claimed the opposition parties have been spreading false propaganda on SIR and misleading people. He accused both Congress and MIM of adopting similar tactics they adopted during the CAA. On the issue of Tungabhadra water sharing, BJP chief welcomed the inauguration of modernised spillway gates in Karnataka which was attended by CM A. Revanth Reddy. He demanded Mr. Revanth Reddy to reveal details of the talks held with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil after the programme as Telangana was getting only 5 tmc of water instead of 15.9 tmc share from Tungabhadra.
He alleged that both BRS and Congress have done injustice to the people of Telangana by compromising water share in Godavari river.
