Five school children narrowly escaped a major tragedy after they fell out of a moving school van when its rear door suddenly opened in Bengaluru’s K.R. Puram on Friday. The incident occurred in Gayatri Layout, where the van, which was transporting school children, reportedly hit a pothole.
The impact is believed to have caused the rear door to swing open, which resulted in five children seated at the back being thrown onto the road. According to the police, the children escaped with only minor injuries as there was no traffic on the stretch at the time of the incident.
The injured children were provided immediate medical attention by residents. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera. The footage, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the van’s rear door opening unexpectedly before the children tumble onto the road while the vehicle continues moving.
The traffic police later seized the van as part of the investigation. Officials said that they are examining the exact circumstances that led to the rear door opening, including whether there was any mechanical failure or negligence on the part of the vehicle driver.
