A 25-year-old woman was shot dead by two masked men who entered her house in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district on Friday morning, police said. The motive behind the killing was not immediately known, and multiple teams have been formed to trace the accused. The victim, identified as Purnima Chauhan, worked as a sales executive with a private company and had been living at her parents' home for the past two to three years after her marriage ended, according to police.
The incident took place at around 11 am in Jondhra village, about 15 km from Sakti town. Read Full Story Police said the two men arrived on a motorcycle with their faces covered with white scarves. One of them, carrying a firearm, went inside the house while the other stayed outside near the motorcycle. After entering, the armed assailant asked family members where Chauhan was. When she came out, he opened fire on her.
The attacker fired three rounds, police said. One bullet hit Chauhan in the head, while the others struck different parts of her body. She collapsed on the spot. Her family members rushed on hearing the gunshots and found her lying in a pool of blood. The family alerted the police, following which a Dial-112 emergency response team reached the house and took Chauhan to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, an official said.
Senior police officers and a forensic team later visited the crime scene, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned for clues about the attackers. Sakti Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur said a probe was under way and all possible angles were being examined. Police said the reason behind the daylight murder was yet to be established as teams continued efforts to identify and trace the two men. Ends
