The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is witnessing new developments as DMK chief M.K. Stalin considers returning to the state legislature. Following his electoral defeat in the Kolathur constituency, sources indicate Stalin may contest the upcoming by-polls from Tiruchirappalli East. This seat was recently vacated by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who chose to retain his Perambur constituency under election laws.
The speculation gathered pace after an assembly session where Chief Minister Vijay questioned the DMK benches regarding Stalin's absence. Alongside the by-poll preparations, the DMK faces potential challenges within its political alliance. The MDMK, led by Vaiko, is reportedly reconsidering its ties with the DMK. Recent meetings between MDMK leaders and the Chief Minister have fuelled discussions of a political realignment, especially after Vaiko publicly praised the new administration's efforts to eradicate corruption.
With several former DMK allies already backing the new government, these shifting allegiances and impending by-polls are poised to alter the political equations across Tamil Nadu.
