(Image: Reuters/File) A 22-year-old Jewish tourist from Israel was allegedly attacked by a group of men in Golders Green, north London, in the early hours of Monday, prompting an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, which is treating the incident as an antisemitic hate crime.
According to the BBC, the victim suffered injuries to his face, neck and back. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged. Police said officers responded shortly after 2 am following reports that a Jewish man had been assaulted by multiple individuals. Describing the incident, the man told the BBC, “They kicked me like an animal and didn’t stop. They were shouting, ‘Are you Jewish? I was thinking they could kill me." Group Of 5 Men Attacked Victim The victim claimed he had been speaking to friends on the phone when around five men approached and attacked him.
He alleged that the group hurled abuse, tore his trousers and left him with only one shoe. He said he believed he was singled out because he was speaking Hebrew and was visibly Jewish. Reflecting on the incident, he added, “It felt far away for me, and I was feeling safe. But now that it’s happened to me, I think something big needs to change in London, and in Europe." Further, the Metropolitan Police have urged witnesses to come forward. No arrests have been made so far.
