Security forces have recovered a large cache of firearms, ammunition, explosive materials and Rs 24 lakh in cash from two Maoist dumps hidden in forests in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, police said on Friday. Officials said search operations have been intensified across the Bastar region after Chhattisgarh was declared free of armed Naxalism on March 31, with teams trying to trace cash, weapons and explosives hidden by Maoists in the past. Read Full Story Acting on specific intelligence inputs, separate search operations were launched earlier this week in the Orchha and Chhotedongar police station areas, a senior police official said.
During the operation in the Tekla forested hills under Orchha police station limits, security personnel unearthed a Maoist dump containing firearms, ammunition, communication equipment and other materials hidden in the forest. The recovered cache included an INSAS rifle, two INSAS magazines and 21 rounds, two SLR rifles, four SLR magazines and 63 live rounds, two.303 rifles, two.303 magazines and 65 live rounds, two 30-OC guns, nine magazines and 36 live rounds, a BGL launcher, a single-shot gun, three detonators, two scanners and 28 rounds of 6.7 mm ammunition, the official said.
In another operation in the Toyameta forested hills under the Chhotedongar police station area, security forces recovered Rs 24 lakh in cash concealed in a Maoist dump on Thursday, he said. The official said security forces remained committed to ensuring peace, security and development in the district through sustained anti-Maoist operations. Narayanpur police also appealed to people to report any suspicious activity or information to the authorities and cooperate in strengthening peace, security and development in the region.
The recoveries were made in two separate operations in Narayanpur district, where security forces found hidden weapons, ammunition, explosive materials and cash as part of intensified searches in the Bastar region, police said. Ends
