French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have announced plans to form a multinational coalition to replace the UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL in Lebanon. The leaders aim to strengthen Lebanon’s sovereignty and its armed forces through enhanced international support, in coordination with the European Union and United Nations. The announcement came during their bilateral summit in Antibes, marking Meloni’s first meeting with Macron amid her recent public tensions with US President Donald Trump.
