Floyd Mayweather's Fight With Mike Zambidis Cancelled After $4.5 Million Lawsuit Published By, Last Updated: June 26, 2026, 11:15 IST Mayweather's exhibition against Zambidis has been cancelled after a lawsuit over an alleged exclusive contract, marking the second scrapped fight of his 2026 schedule. Rapid Read Floyd Mayweather (X) Floyd Mayweather’s frustrating 2026 schedule has taken another hit after his exhibition bout against former kickboxing star Mike Zambidis was cancelled just two days before it was due to take place. The 49-year-old boxing legend had entered the year with ambitious plans, announcing three high-profile fights—two exhibitions and a proposed return to professional boxing. However, none have materialised so far. His exhibition with Mike Tyson was previously called off because of an injury, and now his scheduled clash with Zambidis has been derailed by a legal battle. The eight-round exhibition was set for Saturday in Athens before organisers confirmed its cancellation following court action.
Why Was the Fight Cancelled? The cancellation stems from a lawsuit filed by CSI Sports Events, the promotional company that claims Mayweather breached an exclusive promotional agreement. According to court filings, CSI alleges it signed Mayweather to exclusive deals for future fights involving Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao and paid him $4.5 million in advance. The company says it later provided an additional $150,000 to cover medical expenses related to the cancelled Tyson exhibition. CSI argues that Mayweather violated the exclusivity clause by agreeing to face Zambidis before fulfilling his contractual obligations. The company sought a temporary restraining order, arguing that allowing the exhibition to proceed would cause “irreparable harm" to its business. Promotion Brought To A Standstill The legal dispute quickly affected preparations for the event. In court filings, CSI attorney Melissa Glass said the ongoing litigation made it impossible to move forward with the promotion.
“The ongoing lawsuit and legal threats have effectively prevented the promotion of the event, halted ticket sales, and disrupted broadcast arrangements, making the event economically unviable," the filing stated. Frontrow Fight Series promoter Keane Anis also said organisers had already invested millions into staging the exhibition before the lawsuit halted operations. According to publicly reported court documents and statements, the event had attracted interest from streaming platforms, while total investment was estimated at around $10 million before the cancellation. The legal uncertainty ultimately forced organisers to scrap the entire fight card, not just the Mayweather-Zambidis main event. What’s Next For Mayweather? The injunction remains pending, meaning the exhibition could still be rescheduled if the legal dispute is resolved. For now, however, Mayweather is 0-for-2 on scheduled fights in 2026. With the Tyson exhibition already cancelled and the Zambidis event now shelved, attention will turn to whether his proposed blockbuster bouts with Tyson or Manny Pacquiao can still be salvaged once the court battle concludes.
