Several people were injured after a powerful explosion tore through an apartment building in Agartala on Wednesday afternoon, causing extensive damage and triggering panic among residents. The blast occurred at around 12 pm on the first floor of NS Apartment near Sankat Chowmuhani in the city's Ramnagar Road. The force of the explosion shattered multiple windows across the premises and left residents in shock as emergency teams rushed to the scene. Read Full Story Providing details of the initial response, senior police officer Deba Prasad Roy told ANI that the authorities moved quickly after receiving information about the incident.
“At exactly 12 pm, we received information that a loud explosion-like sound had been heard at a flat in NS Apartment located at Sankat Chowmuhani. We immediately rushed to the spot and found that the incident had occurred on the first floor of the apartment. As soon as we arrived, we informed all the emergency services, including the Bomb Squad and the Fire Service," he said. The concerned agencies have reached the location and have begun their investigation.
We are hopeful that we will be able to determine very soon where the incident originated from and what exactly caused it,” he further added. Several residents suffered injuries in the blast. Among them, a woman sustained serious injuries after glass fragments struck near her eye and was shifted to GB Hospital for treatment. A young man present on the first floor also suffered significant injuries and complained of severe body pain. Fire Service personnel, police teams and bomb disposal officials conducted inspections at the site following the incident.
The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear. While some residents suspect it may have been linked to a gas-related accident, authorities have not ruled out other possibilities and said a detailed forensic investigation is underway. Further details about the blast is underway. Ends
