(Photo: ANI file) An FIR was registered against eight people in connection with the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft allegations on Thursday. The FIR was registered in Ayodhya based on the written complaint of Shri Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. The police have registered the case at the direction of the Uttar Pradesh government. The case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 306, 316(5), 317(4), 317(5), 61, and 3(5) against Ramashankar Yadav alias Tinnu, Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Lavkush Mishra, Rama Shankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava and Manish Yadav.
This came two days after the SIT, probing the donation theft allegations, submitted its preliminary inquiry report to the Uttar Pradesh government. The report was submitted by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, who is an ex officio member of the trust. The controversy over allegations of misappropriation of donations made by devotees to the Ram Temple erupted earlier this month after Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that reports suggested crores of rupees from donations were missing and urged courts to take suo motu cognisance of the matter. The temple trust has denied any irregularities and sought an impartial probe, following which the state government constituted the SIT. During its probe, the SIT questioned various people, including Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust secretary Champat Rai. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that the SIT probe will make everything crystal clear.
“I will tell everyone that nothing should be said that hurts the sentiments of Lord Ram devotees. If anyone has any evidence, they should present it to the SIT," he added. Earlier today, Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday submitted 11 sets of documents in “evidence" to alleged fraud to an SIT probing irregularities in donations received by the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Speaking after meeting the SIT in Lucknow, Singh alleged that the documents pertained to several land deals involving the trust, including purchases at prices significantly higher than market value. “I have handed over all the documents to the SIT. What action will be taken next, only Lord Ram knows," Singh said. The AAP leader said he had 13 documents but submitted 11, as some of the issues were connected.
