(IMAGE: PTI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday said he had submitted documents to the Uttar Pradesh government’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing alleged irregularities linked to the Shri Ram Mandir, including claims of irregularities in land purchases by the trust. In a post on X, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said Singh had appeared before the SIT and submitted documents concerning alleged land purchase irregularities connected to the temple. Singh said he met the SIT after being called by its chairman, Vijay Vishwas Pant, and handed over documents which, according to him, raise questions about several land transactions involving the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Addressing the issue, Kejriwal said reports circulating in the media and on social media regarding alleged irregularities in offerings made at the Ram Mandir were “deeply distressing". Citing media and social media reports, he alleged that cash, silver, jewellery and other offerings made by devotees had been misappropriated. Kejriwal said he would visit Ayodhya on Friday to offer prayers at the Ram Mandir and Hanumangarhi and meet seers. He also questioned the legal basis for constituting the SIT, claiming that an FIR had not been registered in the matter. Kejriwal alleged that the SIT lacked statutory powers to investigate without an FIR and accused it of focusing on lower-level employees while shielding influential individuals. Separately, Singh posted on X that he had submitted documents related to alleged irregularities in land purchases by the trust and hoped appropriate action would follow. Speaking to reporters, Singh said the SIT chairman had invited him to submit evidence and that he had handed over 11 sets of documents after clubbing two related matters.
According to him, the documents pertain to multiple land transactions involving the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. He alleged that the records pointed to several instances in which land was purchased at prices substantially higher than its assessed value, including transactions involving donated land and nazul land. He also claimed that some parcels changed hands shortly before being sold to the trust at significantly higher prices. The AAP MP further alleged that the documents contained details of transactions involving individuals linked to local political leaders and questioned the role of witnesses common to multiple sale deeds. He also claimed that records relating to certain land parcels were incomplete or missing, and said the matter warranted investigation. Singh said he had submitted all the documents to the SIT chairman and expressed hope that the investigation would examine the transactions in detail. He claimed the SIT had assured him that the material would be examined.
