'Will Beat You': Rebel Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil Threatens Reporter Over Question Published By, Last Updated: June 25, 2026, 18:35 IST Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil allegedly threatened a reporter amid a probe sought by Sanjay Raut, Eknath Shinde says Patil denies intent and is ready to apologise. Rebel MP Sanjay Dina Patil. (Image: X) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil triggered a fresh controversy on Thursday after he allegedly threatened a reporter who repeatedly sought his response to a complaint filed by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. Patil, the North East Mumbai MP who recently switched from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, was asked about Raut’s letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharati seeking an investigation into his earlier remarks. In a video of the exchange, Patil is heard telling the reporter that he would “forget" he was an MP and beat him if he was approached again for a reaction.
“I told you that I would speak only for two minutes. Why are you asking again and again? I will forget that I am an MP. If you come for a reaction again, I will beat you. I am speaking this in front of the police and on camera. Go and show it to the commissioner," Patil said. Raut Seeks Probe Into Earlier Remarks The outburst came hours after Raut released a letter addressed to the Mumbai police commissioner, demanding an inquiry into Patil’s earlier on-camera remarks in which he allegedly claimed that five people had been killed after his father, former Congress MLA Dina Patil, was attacked. Raut also sought legal action against Patil, including registration of a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, according to reports. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the police would examine the matter if threats had been issued.
Shinde Says MP Ready To Apologise Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde sought to defuse the row, saying Patil had spoken to him and clarified that he did not intend to threaten or insult the journalist. “Sanjay Patil told me that he had no intention to insult or threaten the journalist and was ready to tender an apology. As far as the party is concerned, we do not support wrong language with journalists. Elected representatives and the media work together," Shinde said. Patil had joined the Shinde-led Shiv Sena earlier this week along with other MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray camp, setting off a new round of political confrontation between the two Sena factions.
