Minister and Communist leader T. Sivadasa Menon will be remembered on June 28, his fourth death anniversary. “Remembering Sivadasa Menon means honouring a major chapter in the history of Palakkad’s revolutionary movement,” said N.N. Krishnadas, former MP and senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader.
Krishnadas will lead a commemorative function at Sivadasa Menon Square near Government Victoria College here on Sunday. Floral tributes will be offered at 8 a.m., followed by a memorial meeting. Sivadasa Menon played a key role in strengthening the Communist movement in Palakkad, serving as Mannarkkad local secretary, taluk secretary, district secretary and State secretariat member.
He also organised private-sector teachers and helped expand the teachers’ movement in the State. A founding leader of the Kerala Socialist Youth Federation (KSYF), the precursor to the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), he later served two terms as a Minister in the E.K. Nayanar Cabinet.
“Palakkad witnessed significant development during Sivadasa Menon’s tenure as Minister,” Mr. Krishnadas said.
