A woman was caught on camera trying to jump out of a moving SUV in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut during an argument, triggering a kidnapping scare and a police hunt after a video of the incident went viral. Investigators later found that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between the couple and that it was not a case of kidnapping. The incident occurred on Tuesday after a video of a black SUV went viral on social media. The footage shows the vehicle speeding along with one of its doors open while a woman could be heard screaming from inside, giving rise to fears that she had been kidnapped.
According to police, the episode stemmed from an argument between the couple after the woman found a strand of hair in her food. Read Full Story The dispute escalated while the family was travelling in the SUV. During the argument, the woman, identified as Nisha, opened the vehicle's door and attempted to jump out while the car was still moving, the video shows. A biker and his companion, who were travelling behind the SUV, became suspicious after hearing the woman's cries and the SUV door open. They followed the vehicle for nearly three kilometres and recorded a video of the incident.
The footage was later circulated and a complaint was lodged with police, alleging that a kidnapping had taken place. Taking the matter seriously, police teams launched a search operation during the night, but initially failed to trace the vehicle. On Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (City) Vinayak Gopal Bhosale personally reviewed CCTV footage and tracked down the SUV. The subsequent investigation revealed that the incident was linked to a domestic quarrel and not kidnapping. Police said the woman's husband, Imran, continued driving after the argument and travelled towards his niece's residence. Investigators later found that Imran's niece, Atika Shah, also lives in Meerut.
They said Imran dropped off his wife and child at his niece's residence before leaving for Delhi later that night. Officers subsequently recorded Nisha's statement, in which she confirmed that the incident arose from a dispute with her husband. Police have summoned Imran to Meerut along with the SUV for further questioning. The investigation has so far found no evidence of kidnapping, with police concluding that bystanders mistook the couple's argument for kidnapping after seeing the woman trying to get out of the moving vehicle and hearing her screams.
