Bulldozers roared into action early in the morning against illegally constructed houses near Nigam Bodh Ghat. The DDA undertook this action following court orders; a notice to vacate Yamuna Bazar had been issued on May 13 under the Disaster Management Act, followed by a court-mandated notice on June 2 requiring evacuation by June 23.
