Amazon has launched the Echo Dot Max in India. The device promises to give you almost everything you may want from a smart speaker without having to shell out extra for the Echo Studio. And to achieve this, Amazon seems to have left no stone unturned. The Echo Dot Max comes with a two-way speaker system, something that you do not get on more affordable Echo devices – such as the Echo Dot (5th gen) or the Echo Spot. This is paired with a refreshed design, and a new chip, and more microphones. Read Full Story At Rs 10,999, the Amazon Echo Dot Max may seem a bit pricey, considering that the Echo Show 5 is available at a similar price – it also gets a screen. But the Echo Dot Max has a much greater focus on sound quality. Does the Echo Dot Max deliver everything it promises? Let’s find out in our full review here at India Today Tech. Amazon Echo Dot Max design The Echo Dot Max has a relatively compact form factor. The Echo Dot Max comes with a familiar Death Star-like spherical design that we have seen on previous Dot devices. But there are some changes. The control panel almost cuts through the sphere and sits on the face of the device. Here you get the volume control buttons, with the mic access button in the middle. The sphere is surrounded by the blue ring light that turns on whenever you activate Alexa. The lights can also show the volume on a scale of 1 to 10 when you press the buttons. The rest of the sphere comes with a mesh-like finish, which feels quite grippy, and does not get dirty quickly. On the back you get a power socket. The Echo Dot Max weighs roughly 505 grams and it is quite portable if you plan on switching its place every now and then.
The setup process for the Echo Dot Max is quite seamless. You plug in the device and open the Alexa app – signed in with your Amazon account. Once the device is ready to pair, you will find it on the app, and then you can connect to it. Amazon Echo Dot Max sound The Echo Dot Max has a dedicated tweeter and woofer. Now let’s discuss sound. Amazon has packed a redesigned two-way speaker system in the Echo Dot Max. You get a 0.8-inch tweeter and a 2.5-inch woofer in the device. In comparison, the Echo Dot (5th Gen) comes with a 1.73-inch front-firing speaker. The Echo Show 5 on the other hand, comes with a full-range 1.7-inch built-in speaker. That is to say that the Echo Dot Max is the only Amazon smart device at this price to come with a dedicated woofer and tweeter. It also gets support for lossless high definition audio, and automatic room adaptation. That is, the device can adapt to the room it is kept in and change the way it plays the audio. And all of this combined really adds to your experience. You are able to play lossless audio that is not only loud enough to cover a living room but can adapt to how it plays music based on where it is kept. The audio quality is quite impressive. While listening to songs like “Imagine” by Ariana Grande, or “Colors” by Halsey, the bass feels quite good, and you get a full-feeling sound. You can even feel vibrations from the woofer on occasions. Though sometimes the sound would slightly feel distorted at max volume. Usually, I would just listen to songs on the Echo Dot Max in my house. Since the device can get quite loud, I was able to hear songs even while moving across rooms. You can also use the Echo Dot Max as a speaker for your home stereo setup, with up to 5 speakers, something you can’t do with more affordable Echo devices.
