A Comptroller and Auditor General audit has flagged significant discrepancies in Karnataka's flagship Gruha Lakshmi scheme. The audit raised concerns over duplicate bank accounts, data entry gaps, and beneficiary verification in the seventy-five thousand crore rupees program. Over nineteen thousand beneficiaries were found linked to common bank accounts, and over twenty-three thousand received payments without available bank details, totaling over forty-six crore rupees.
While the state government admitted to procedural discrepancies and announced plans to re-verify the beneficiary list, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party labeled the scheme a large-scale scam, demanding a transparent, high-level investigation. The ruling party countered by highlighting central audit findings in other schemes and accusing the opposition of attempting to divert public attention.
