In a major administrative restructuring aimed at improving governance and public service delivery, the DK Shivakumar-led Karnataka government has created a new Praja Seva Department by bringing together key citizen-service and reform-oriented wings under a single administrative framework. The decision was approved by the state Cabinet and formalised through a government order issued on June 24. The newly created department will function as the nodal agency for public grievance redressal, administrative reforms, process simplification and citizen-service delivery across the state.

Officials said the Praja Seva Department will also oversee flagship public outreach and service initiatives such as Janaspandana and Sakala with the objective of ensuring faster and time-bound resolution of public complaints and service requests.
To support the new structure, the state government has sanctioned 73 posts and consolidated officers and staff from the merged entities under one administrative setup. The move is expected to strengthen coordination between departments, reduce procedural delays and improve the overall delivery of government services. According to officials, the restructuring is designed to enhance transparency, accountability and responsiveness in governance while making interactions between citizens and government offices simpler and more efficient.
The initiative is being viewed as a key governance reform intended to build a more citizen-centric administration in Karnataka. Ends
