The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister flagged off 300 newly procured diesel and compressed natural gas buses for the state's transport corporations at the Secretariat in the state capital. The launch aims to boost public transport facilities and improve connectivity for daily commuters across different regions of the state. During the event, the Chief Minister traveled in a bus routed to his constituency, interacting with passengers and the transport staff.
The induction of these vehicles comes amidst allegations from the opposition, including the former Chief Minister, who claimed the launch was delayed due to assembly sessions and birthday celebrations. The newly inducted fleet will be deployed across seven state-owned transport corporations in a phased manner to augment existing services and improve fleet availability. The move also supports the state's ongoing initiative to maintain free public transport rides for women by upgrading the transport infrastructure with environmentally friendly vehicles.
