Hyderabad: 18-Year-Old Student Allegedly Suffocates Her Newborn, Throws Body Off Hostel’s Third Floor Published By, Last Updated: June 25, 2026, 12:57 IST Police said the 18-year-old intermediate student had been in a relationship with her cousin for the past three years and became pregnant during that period Rapid Read During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the Hyderabad hostel and reportedly found blood stains on the third-floor wall as well as traces of blood and the placenta inside the bathroom. An 18-year-old intermediate student has been taken into custody after the body of a newborn was found inside the premises of an ESI dispensary near a minority girls’ hostel in Hyderabad’s Golconda area. Police alleged that the student suffocated the baby shortly after giving birth inside the hostel bathroom before disposing of the body by throwing it from the third floor of the building. According to the police, the student, a second-year intermediate student from Jagadgirigutta, had been staying at the hostel while pursuing her studies.
Investigators said she had been in a relationship with her cousin, a lorry driver, for the past three years and became pregnant during that period. Police alleged that when she informed him about the pregnancy, he advised her to consume papaya in an attempt to terminate it. However, the pregnancy continued. Investigators also said the pregnancy allegedly went unnoticed because the hostel did not have a medical assistant in place to conduct regular health check-ups for students. Baby Allegedly Born In Hostel Bathroom Police said the student went into labour in the early hours of Monday and delivered a baby boy inside the hostel bathroom. According to the investigation, the student allegedly feared that the baby’s cries would alert other hostel residents and staff. Police claim she then covered the newborn’s nose and mouth, causing the infant to suffocate. Body Thrown From Third Floor, Police Say After the baby died, the student allegedly threw the body from the third floor of the hostel into the adjoining ESI dispensary compound, police said.
The body was discovered on Tuesday morning by the hostel principal, who informed the Golconda police. Senior police officials visited the spot and shifted the infant’s body to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the hostel and reportedly found blood stains on the third-floor wall as well as traces of blood and the placenta inside the bathroom. Following questioning, the student allegedly confessed to the incident, police said. She has since been admitted to Niloufer Hospital for treatment following childbirth. Police have also registered a case against the student’s cousin, alleging his involvement in the pregnancy and accusing him of giving misleading advice regarding abortion. He is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.
