Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay flagged off 300 newly procured diesel and CNG buses worth ₹127 crore, boosting the state's public transport network across Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and other major cities. The Chief Minister also took a ride in one of the new buses, interacted with passengers and recorded a selfie video during the launch.
Meanwhile, the Vijay government's proposed 'Thai Maman Thanga Modhiram Thittam' has sparked a political debate. Under the scheme, every child born in a government hospital from June 22, 2026, will receive a one-gram gold ring. However, TVK ally VCK has questioned the move, urging the government to spend the proposed ₹755 crore annual budget on upgrading government hospitals and maternity wards instead of distributing gold rings.
