Twin earthquakes measuring up to 7.5 in magnitude struck Venezuela, with the epicenter located west of Moron along the Caribbean coast. The seismic activity caused structural damage across various parts of the country, notably in the capital city of Caracas. Areas such as the 23 de enero neighborhood experienced building collapses, leaving people potentially trapped under debris. Visuals indicate severe structural damage at the Maiquetia Airport lounge.
Emergency services and rescue personnel are actively clearing heavy rubble to conduct search and recovery operations. The United States Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a report ruling out any tsunami threat to the Venezuelan coast and the broader Caribbean region. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez and Interior Minister Ricardo Cabello acknowledged the widespread impact across several states. While official casualty figures have not been released by authorities, rescue efforts are underway in the highly seismic-prone northern belt of Venezuela.
