File pic/PTI Following a tragic incident in the state capital, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed a massive, coordinated statewide inspection campaign targeting coaching institutes operating in violation of safety regulations and structural norms. Multi-departmental enforcement teams comprising officials from the police, district administration, local development authorities, fire services, and electrical safety departments carried out intense synchronized raids across major educational hubs including Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Meerut, and Agra. The sweeping crackdown has resulted in the immediate sealing of more than 100 coaching institutes after severe irregularities and life-threatening deficiencies were detected on their premises.
The enforcement drive intensified rapidly across multiple districts, with several administrative teams initiating inspections on Monday evening and continuing operations late into Tuesday night. Investigators focused heavily on evaluating structural safety maps, emergency exit accessibility, building layouts, and the functional status of fire-fighting equipment. The rigorous scrutiny also targeted unregistered and completely unapproved commercial establishments operating under the radar of local urban planning bodies. The scale of non-compliance was starkly highlighted in Prayagraj, where Chief Fire Officer Chandra Mohan Sharma revealed that out of 97 registered coaching institutes in the city, a mere 15 had secured a valid Fire No-Objection Certificate. In response to these widespread lapses, the Fire Department deployed ten specialised inspection teams to systematically audit the remaining institutions. As part of this targeted action, the Prayagraj Development Authority sealed the prominent Khan Global Studies coaching centre situated in the Civil Lines area. Simultaneously, a massive enforcement operation by the Kanpur Development Authority and local fire officials crippled illegal setups in Kakadeo, the city’s largest student hub.
