President Donald Trump has said that the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, negotiated under President Barack Obama, was "one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into". He famously withdrew the US from the deal in 2018. And now, with the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran extended, Mr Trump has vowed to secure a superior deal to limit Iran's nuclear capabilities.
We ask the BBC's diplomatic correspondent Paul Adams what that will take. The memorandum of understanding signed last week reaffirmed that Iran would not procure or develop nuclear weapons. But a more detailed agreement on the future of Tehran's nuclear programme must now be hammered out, as a vital part of the broader peace process. The two sides are currently at an impasse over international inspections of nuclear sites, after Vice-President JD Vance attended talks in Switzerland.
Iran has denied Mr Vance's claims that inspectors will be allowed in. Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has insisted that inspections will take place but gave no timetable.
