Due to medical reasons, it’s been decided to perform her last rites in Bhopal," he said. Death Case The death of Twisha Sharma, 33, a native of Noida, at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills sent shockwaves through the country and sparked a furious debate on dowry practices in India. While her in-laws have alleged that she was struggling with drug addiction, her family has accused them of harassing her for dowry, claiming it drove her to death.
The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI probe into the case. Meanwhile, the Bar Council of India has suspended Samarth Singh’s licence. During the suspension period, he will not be allowed to use the prefix “Advocate" before his name. Twisha’s family has repeatedly claimed that Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, also used their influence to delay action in the case. Samarth Singh was surrendered before Jabalpur police on Friday after being on the run for at least 10 days. Previously, one of the family members alleged that there were significant shortcomings in the first post-mortem examination and expressed confidence that the fresh medical review would address unanswered questions. “There were a lot of shortcomings in the first post-mortem, and we have a lot of hope with the second one that will bring clarity on the things that were not there in the first one. The judiciary coming into action is a positive sign. Now that the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance, something will definitely be done," the relative said.
The case has drawn widespread attention after the Supreme Court reportedly took suo motu cognisance of the matter, while the High Court’s intervention led to the decision for a second autopsy under the supervision of senior AIIMS doctors.
