Latest investigations have revealed that a Karnataka student, who was initially believed to have died by suicide due to cancellation of NEET UG examination, had failed her PUC (Pre-University Course) examinations. Bhagyashree’s father, Rajasekhar Patil, had previously told media that his daughter was upset over the cancellation of the NEET UG examination and that it had deeply affected her emotionally.
The alleged suicide of student Bhagyashree R Patil from Kalaburagi district, initially linked to the cancellation of the NEET examination, has taken a turn after details of her academic performance surfaced. Her score card has suggested that Bhagyashree had not cleared her second PUC examinations, casting doubt on the claim that the NEET issue alone led to her death. According to the available marks records, Bhagyashree had allegedly claimed at home that she had secured 92 per cent marks and had even distributed sweets in the locality. She was reportedly hoping to clear the examination through the supplementary attempt. However, the supplementary examination results allegedly gave her a major setback. Bhagyashree had allegedly scored 369 marks in the first attempt and 365 in the supplementary examination, but still failed overall. In Mathematics, she reportedly secured only 24 marks in total, including 20 internal marks, meaning she scored just four marks in the theory examination.
The developments have raised questions over whether disappointment over the supplementary examination results may have pushed the student into distress, or whether there were other reasons behind the suicide. At present, police have not officially confirmed the exact reason behind the death. Officials said only the investigation by the Station Bazaar Police can establish the truth behind the incident. Sources linked to the NEET paper leak investigation have claimed that the leaked papers were circulated in at least five states through a carefully planned network. Agencies now believe the operation was not run by a single gang but by an organised syndicate operating across several states.
