Politicos are paying close attention to Iowa in the lead-up to the 2026 midterm elections. Meanwhile, tariffs and the effects of the Iran war are putting more pressure on the agriculture industry, which is key to the Iowa state economy. Republican's strong 2024 performance in Iowa helped the party earn a lawmaking trifecta in Washington. Democrats see opportunities to flip some of those seats in an effort to limit the President's lawmaking influence.
